Headmaster - James Twardowski

Jim Twardowski joined the BCA administrative team as Headmaster on July 1, 2017, after his retirement from Sheldon ISD.  He brings 33 years of experience as a classroom teacher, coach, and administrator to BCA.  Mr. Twardowski’s administrative career began as an assistant principal at Horace Mann Junior High in 1997. Other administrative roles he has performed include junior school principal (Horace Mann), high school principal (C.E. King High School), director of athletics (Sheldon ISD), and administrative services (Sheldon ISD).  Prior to becoming an administrator, Mr. Twardowski taught and coached for 13 years at Blocker Middle School (Texas City), Texas City High School, and Ross S. Sterling High School.

Mr. Twardowski is a native of Highlands, TX and attended Goose Creek CISD schools, graduating from Ross S. Sterling High School in 1979. He holds an undergraduate degree from Texas Christian University (Class of 1983) and a Master’s Degree in Educational Management from the University of Houston – Clear Lake (1991).

Including Christian beliefs and principles into the educational process is what makes BCA a special place.  In order to maintain personal stability and endure the challenges which life brings, we need a strong faith in God, a strong personal character, and a great education.  BCA provides its students an environment to obtain all those qualities.”

Dean of Grammar - Andrea Case

Andrea S. Case became a part of Baytown Christian Academy’s faculty in January of 1999 when she accepted a position as a second-grade teacher.  Mrs. Case’s teaching career, however, started with a summer teaching job in Houston, TX in June of 1981 upon her graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education—Major English and Minor French.  After teaching various grade levels and starting her own family, Mrs. Case returned to the classroom herself at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where she graduated in 1996 with a Master of Arts in Christian Education.  All in all, Mrs. Case has over 35 years of teaching experience in various classroom and administrative roles.  In her own words—“BCA is where my heart is—it is where God has placed me.  I am blessed to have spent the last 20 years of my career as an educator at BCA.  The first nine of those years I served as an elementary teacher of various grade levels, and over these last years I have served in different administrative roles.  I fully endorse Christian education and strive to build meaningful relationships that impact students and their families for Christ.  BCA’s mission perfectly sums up my own educational philosophy:  Teaching the Mind; Reaching the Heart.”

College Liaison - Dr. Gary Holmes

Gary Holmes, Ed.D. has been the college liaison and chemistry/conceptual physics teacher for the past six years.  As the BCA college liaison, he works closely with students and parents as they prepare for career and college. In his classes, he emphasizes activity-based science instruction which allows his students to enjoy and experience the wonders of science while developing a strong science foundation.

Dr. Holmes has 42 years of educational experience including: Sunday school teacher; junior/senior high school science teacher, coach, and assistant principal, community college instructor, and university adjacent professor.  He is an avid birdwatcher and enjoys nature and outdoor activities.

“I enjoy learning about the magnificence of God’s Creation and teaching about all things science and nature related. It has been a blessing to teach science to the wonderful students at BCA and to assist our students in their college preparation and selection.”

Erica Pokluda was born in Orangefield, TX and moved to Baytown in 2001.  Prior to joining the BCA Grammar Staff in 2018, she had 3 years of experience in early childhood education as a preschool teacher and was also a BCA Substitute Teacher.  Erica was nominated and volunteered as the Volunteer Coordinator at BCA in 2017 and continues to fulfill this role.  She has nearly 20 years of experience with major oil and gas companies, most recently as a certified Lead Project Manager.  Erica has also been a mentor for foster children through United Way. Children are her true passion!  Erica has been married to her husband Mike for almost 10 years and they have two children.

Grade 1 - Katie Ormsby

Katie Ormsby is celebrating her sixth year in first grade at BCA. She is honored and proud to be at such an awesome school.  She loves serving the Lord and she loves teaching children; being able to do them both at the same time is a daily dream come true.

“I was looking for a school home that felt right - BCA has a family-like atmosphere and is a God-filled community of the faithful. You can’t get better than BCA! It’s the place to be!”

Grade 1 - Deanne Cummings

Deanne Cummings comes to BCA with 29 years of public school experience. She loves to read and write. Her historic novel, Knights of Warsaw, was published in 2009. She is currently working on her second work of fiction. She is married to her husband, Keith, also a teacher. They have two boys, Ian, 25, and Bryon, 22. Oma and Opa are expecting their first grandchild in October. Future retirement plans include a move to Fort Davis, Texas, home to the darkest skies and brightest stars in the state.

Grade 2 - Jennifer Ellisor

Jennifer Ellisor grew up in Crosby, Texas where she lives with her wonderful husband Rusty and their 3 amazing kids. Their family worships at Church of the Resurrection where Rusty serves as rector. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development from Houston Baptist University. She has taught in both public and private school, but this is her first year at BCA. She thrilled to be here! In her classroom each child will be cared about and challenged. She is looking forward to building relationships and embracing this wonderful BCA family.

Grade 3 - Tierra Kuykendall

Tierra Kuykendall Graduated from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi with a Bachelors degree in early childhood education. She has substituted for Brackettville ISD and Goose Creek CISD. She was also a personal tutor for 1 1/2 years. Ms. K. has been teaching here since 2017 and she is very excited to be apart of this wonderful school.

Grade 4/5 - Christopher McAnally

Christopher McAnally is a Sam Houston State University graduate who has spent most of his life working with children at his church in Baytown, Texas (First Church of the Nazarene) and is already enjoying his life as an educator. Mr. McAnally strives to achieve great things in his own life and to help his students achieve their goals as well. He has a history in creative arts and tries to incorporate creative learning in his classroom.

"I believe God has brought me here to make a positive impact on my students and he's already helped them leave a positive impact on me. I look forward to my career as an educator and I can't thank the faculty and staff enough for their care and support! Go Bulldogs!"

Grade 4/5 - Angela Norris

Angela Norris has been teaching at BCA since 2017. Before coming to BCA she taught and tutored in Goose Creek CISD. She has also served as children's minister at her church. Mrs. Norris has been married for 19 years and has two children, Carli and Caden, that attend BCA.  Any free time she has is spent watching her kids play sports.   

Mrs. Norris is excited to be at a school where Christ is the focus and can't wait to see how God will use her in the lives of her students.

Music / Choir - Christopher Allison

Christopher is a graduate from Lee College in Baytown, Texas. He has an associates degree in Audio Engineering, with a certificate in music production. Prior to being hired by BCA Christopher worked in the commercial audio visual field for a year. He also taught drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar and lead/rhythm electric guitar for Dencie Lee School of Performing Arts for three years. He now teaches drums for DLSPA as a part-time instructor.

Christopher has also volunteered at Maranatha Church in Mont Belvieu for the past 11 years. He has served in choir, youth and praise bands, and their AV team. He has been head of their praise band for two years, head of their youth band for three years, and has served as a volunteer youth staff member for the past nine years.

In his spare time Christopher records his own music at home, attends concerts, and searches for new food spots to enjoy.

Art/Library - Karah Hendricks

Karah Hendricks attended BCA when she was in the 8th grade and later graduated in 2013. She worked the BCA extended care program for a year and now she is on her 2nd year of being the art teacher and librarian. She loves this school and the Christian environment. She loves watching her students grow in their artistic abilities and expand their knowledge about different artists!

PE - Mitch Viator

Mitch Viator, M.Ed. has been an educator for over 20 years as a teacher, coach, and an administrator. He is a graduate of McNeese State University and Houston Baptist University. His passion for education and athletics comes naturally, as his grandparents and his parents were all teachers, coaches, and administrators. As a high school basketball coach, he has enjoyed tremendous success with both girls' and boys' teams, and he is excited to bring his passion for education and basketball to BCA!


Secondary Staff

ELA / JH history - Julie Fantini-King

Ms. Julie Fantini-King has been with BCA since 2013, teaching primary English, but also social studies. During her eighteen years in education, she has taught English in both public and private schools, from 6th grade grammar to 11th grade Advanced Placement. She has also worked as a district English curriculum coordinator. She began her career as a high school English teacher, and after two years, became English Department Chair. She is also the Adviser for the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society.

Latin / History - Amber Menefee

Amber Menefee taught two years in public school before coming to BCA in 2013.  She has a B.A. from Houston Baptist University in History and Biblical Languages.  She teaches World History, American History, and Latin to both junior high and high school and also organizes the yearbook. She is blessed to work with her husband of 6 years and has two precious cats.

“Teaching at BCA has allowed me the blessing and honor to watch my students grow and mature both academically and spiritually over the course of several years.  In a culture that is increasingly hostile to Christian values, BCA is a safe harbor where students can receive an excellent education in an environment that is wholly grounded in Christ.”

JH/HS Math/ Bible - Barbara Elliot

Mrs. Barbara Elliott was born in Oklahoma, but has lived in Texas since 1988.  She is married and has three children; two sons (who have graduated from BCA) and a daughter who is currently in high school.  She and her family are faithful members of Community Baptist Church in Crosby, Texas, where they actively serve the Lord as music ministers, Sunday school teachers, and praise band members. She graduated from OSU Technical School with Automotive degree and Southeastern Oklahoma State University with her education degree. She has been a Christian educator since 1993, serving as both teacher and principal, and has been with Baytown Christian Academy since 2012.

She loves the Lord and has a deep desire for each of her students to know Him and love Him also!  Her favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. 

Bible / SAT Prep - Nathan Menefee

Nathan Menefee has been a teacher at BCA since August of 2011. He teaches Old Testament, New Testament and Systematic Theology as well as Speech and SAT Prep. Nathan graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in Christianity and Biblical Languages. He is the Associate Pastor at Second Baptist Church of La Porte, where he has been a member for 20 years, and a volunteer police chaplain for the La Porte police department. 

Social Studies - Mark Helzer

Mr. Helzer has taught history-related subjects in public and private schools for 32 years.  Happily married for nearly 39 years and the father of two lovely daughters, Mr. Helzer has also coached track and field, football, basketball, volleyball, and cross country.

Mr. Helzer's favorite chapter in the Bible is John 14.  His twin goals in the classroom are to help each student achieve success and to model Christ to every student.

Spanish - Hortencia Flores

Hortencia Flores grew up in Pasadena, Texas. She attended Abilene Christian University where she studied art. She loves to paint, draw, write, take photos, make videos and a lot of other creative things. She was a tutor and TA in college. After that she worked as a teacher for a non-profit organization in Galveston, where she worked with a diverse group of children and adults. This is her first year at BCA. She is currently teaching Spanish, Logic and Keyboarding. She has enjoyed her time at BCA so far and is looking forward to many more great memories. 

ELA / Dual Credit English - Jan Martindale

Jan Martindale has been a teacher in both public and private education for over 30 years, the last 15 having been at BCA, where she also teaches Dual Credit classes with Lee College. She has also served at the administrative level as an Assistant Principal / Dean of Academics. She earned a B.A. in English from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and a Master of Arts from Oklahoma State University. She has a Lifetime Teaching Certificate in High School Language Arts in Texas.

She is married to her husband, Steve, of 43 years, and has two children and three grandchildren. She has attended Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown for 37 years where she has been involved in both teaching and music ministry. She enjoys watching college football, especially OSU!

JH / HS Science - Linda Flynt

Linda Flynt was born in Baytown and lived most of her life in Cove, Texas. She is married to Gary Flynt and they have two sons who attend BCA.  They have attended Second Baptist Church in Baytown for 20+ years. While attending Lee College, she was a missionary for the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board.  She then went on to get a BS in Marine Biology from Texas A & M at Galveston “Sea Aggies”.  She worked as a consultant in EPA and TNRCC testing, Research and Development for ExxonMobil, taught three years at BCA, stayed home to begin raising two boys which included home schooling for seven years, then in 2015 came back to BCA to teach.  She has taught in Sunday school for College and Career as well as High School, children’s programs, and Cub Scouts with in the past 20 years. Linda leads her home school group in dissections to enrich their curriculum. She loves her students as they are her own children and has a passion for God and encourages them to be who God put them here to be, we ALL have a purpose.She loves science and math and enjoys watching for the “light bulb moment”. She teaches junior high math and high school sciences.  She is excited to lead her classes in the new science lab, it is beautiful!

She chose BCA because it allows her to teach any subject from the stand point of a Christian, which is a must for her children’s education.  BCA is small and allows for a good student to teacher ratio, it is also a big  family.  When one is down, we all help in picking them up.  We study hard, play hard, and love a lot!  


HS Math - Blake Smith

Blake Smith moved to Baytown in 2007 and attended BCA from 6th-12th grade. He attended Texas A&M University after graduation to earn a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He hopes to attend medical school in the future, but he is now using his engineering background to teach math to high school students. 

“I enjoyed my time at BCA while I was a student and appreciate how the school prepared me to succeed in college. Because of this, I desire to spend time giving back to the school that allowed me to do all that I did at Texas A&M.”



Auxiliary Staff

Lunch Coordinator / Office - Tresha Noel

Tresha Noel has been with BCA for 13 years.  After 14 years of homeschooling her children she enrolled her younger 2 children in BCA in 2006.  She serves as the Director of Food Service as well as the  Office Manager.  Her background in food service comes from 7 years of  children's summer camp ministry where she was the chief cook and bottle washer for 200 children and staff members.  She has been married to her husband Danny for 35 years and has 5 children and 3 grandsons.  

“After being a stay at home mom for over 20 years God blessed me with with this job.  I am so thankful for my time here and for the opportunity to work with the staff and students.”

Dean Secretary - Sandi Welch

Sandi Welch has been married for 23 years and has two beautiful children.  Her son graduated from BCA in 2015 and has completed two years at Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Her daughter is a Sophomore at BCA and is a Varsity cheerleader.  She is beginning her 7th year at BCA but has taught in early childhood areas for the past 24 years.  She taught Pre K4 her first year here and then moved to Kindergarten.  This year, she has moved into the office as Assistant to the Deans. She is also the varsity cheer coach and coaches JH and varsity tennis.
