Derek Martin – Head Girls’ Basketball Coach

Derek Martin came to Baytown Christian Academy in August2006 and enters his 4th season with the BCA  girls’ basketball team.  He is a native of Galveston, Texas,where he graduated from O’Connell High School.  He is a graduate of Texas A&M University, where he received his Bachelors Degree in Marketing & Business Administration. 

Coach Martin has been coaching high school basketball for 10years, a stretch which has included two TAPPS State Final Four appearances and four district championships.  Prior to arriving at BCA he’s coached varsity basketball at his alm a mater, O’Connell High School and at Abundant Life Christian School.  In the 2008-09 season, in addition to winning the district championship, the BCA  girls’ basketball team appeared in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll for the first time in school history, ranking as high as #13 in the state.  The team also set a school record in girls’ basketball for wins in a season with 25.  He has coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball in his 10 years of experience, and six of his former players have gone on to play at the college level.  Coach Martin also serves as the assistant high school track coach, and teaches Texas and American History at BCA.
