Donald Houser - Head Varsity Football Coach
Don Houser enters his second season as coach of the BCA Bulldogs. Coach Houser's most recent experience was on the college level as the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina A&T State Univerisity. North Carolina A&T competes in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly NCAA I-AA). Coach Houser worked with both the Defensive Line and Linebacker units at A&T. Previous to that, Coach Houser was at Division I-AA power Youngstown State where he coached linebackers for two seasons. He has coached at the high school, military and collegiate level for the past 13 seasons and has served our country as a member of the United States Marine Corps.
A native of Austintown, Ohio, Houser graduated from Austintown-Fitch High School where he received appointments to the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Houser played college football at both the U.S. Air Force Academy and the University of Cincinnati. Houser began the first of his two coaching stints at his high school alma mater Austintown-Fitch in 1991, where he coached tight ends and inside linebackers. The second stint came in 1996. In his second tenure, he coached centers and outside linebackers.
From 1993-95, Houser served our country in the Marine Corps at Presidio of Monterey, Calif., where he earned a diploma and linguistic certification in Modern Standard Arabic from the Defensive Language Institute. While serving, he played and coached football for the Marine Corps Detachment serving as the assistant head football coach. He also coordinated the offense and defense each for one season.
In 1997, Houser was named head coach of Southington-Chalker High School in Southington, Ohio. He also served as the school’s offensive coordinator and inside linebacker coach.
He served as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Houston, while finishing his B.A. degree. He became a graduate assistant coach at Division II Clarion University of Pennsylvania following graduation and was responsible for tight ends and offensive lineman.
This past summer, Coach Houser married the former Ms. Shirley Kissinger. Mrs. Houser is the mother of BCA senior Gary Kissinger.
